So! What is Mid Life?

Midlife – try googling it! The search results seem to refer regularly to ‘Mid Life Crisis’ Try looking the word up in a dictionary. Whilst the general definition is ‘middle age’, there are still references to the term ‘crisis’!

So, assuming the general interpretation of midlife is Mid Life Crisis then let’s explore further what this term means. Synonyms of Mid Life Crisis suggest;

  • Apprehension
  • Dread
  • Depression
  • Uneasiness
  • Blues

Even ‘Weltschmerz’ was referred to! I looked it up. The literal translation being ‘world pain’!!!, But in context  a ‘feeling of sadness about the state of the world’.

For me, all these references and definitions are just too negative to associate with. Midlife is a time in life to be embraced and to feel positive about. After all, these are our middle years. The younger generations will have them to come and the older have them to reflect on. Not happy with the synonyms of Midlife and certain to find positivity in my little bit of research I thought to explore the antonyms of Mid Life Crisis. The opposites being;

  • Calmness
  • Happiness
  • Confidence

Much better yes? A dictionary definition of Midlife is the ‘central period of a person’s life between around 45 and 60 years old’. It’s just middle age so let’s not make a drama out of a crisis.

I suggest to all fellow mid lifers to embrace your midlife years with calmness, happiness and confidence! These are our freedom years in which we can travel, explore, follow our desires and seek new challenges,opportunities and success!
